There are, and always have been, those challenges we can’t

CEO of Acme Distribution
C.E.O Jeff Goldfogel

I am entering my 50th year in the logistics industry and couldn’t be more excited. I look back over these five decades and sometimes marvel at what exactly happened and how quickly fifty years can go. I remember the funniest stories, the saddest, the most amazing and sometimes the most absurd. The successes have been plentiful as have the challenges. The disappointments have been painful but important in achieving improvement and stability. Stability, however, is not the goal but rather a small and transient landing platform from which to grow, expand and improve. And that’s exactly what’s going on at Acme in 2025.

There are, and always have been, those challenges we can’t begin to control and those that we can and do control as a matter of course. I look back at Covid 19 and can barely remember some of the craziness that we endured, managed and even created. The ultimate in uncharted territory with large consequences hanging in the balances. I remember Y2K and the manic worry that somehow at 12:01 a m on January 1st, 2000, my lap top, like everyone else’s, would spontaneously combust and vaporize into a cloud of Y2K dust leaving behind, in its place, a big chief tablet, a Schaffer mechanical pencil, and a Dietzgen slide-rule. My worry was for naught because when all was said and done, Y2K came and went and thanks to greater minds than mine, the anticipated carnage was completely overstated.

Then of course, there are those daily challenges that will exist long after you and I are gone. There’s the continuing driver shortage, the never predictable governmental influence, and the increasing importance of how we fit in a global marketplace.

We are launching this new web page on the heels of a very successful and productive 2024. Our management team has never been stronger, and our coordinated focus on service excellence only intensifies. We remain intolerant of our failures but attack them with process and technology solutions that will be woven into our fiber of continuous improvement. That willingness and drive to improve is perhaps our most notable competitive advantage.

I think it’s difficult to create a web page and content that accurately and sufficiently puts out there what we’re all about. Like most pages of this type, if an operation did not perform well in the areas highlighted, it would likely not even be in business. So, as you read about us and make mental notes about our services, let me leave you with this. The market allows every player the same general resources and opportunities but how those resources are maximized is the difference maker. Just a few weeks back, we had some long standing employees retire and with that came the inevitable question about replacement options, cost effectiveness and service continuity. The management team got together and redefined the term “thinking out of the box”. They made some adjustments and shifted some paradigms and the results have been outstanding. The energy that came with these changes has been a game changer and it’s contagious.

Our depth of experience and focus on empowering our people is what sets us apart and that will continue to be the key to our growth and success. I am excited at what the coming years will see in technology. We are on the precipice of robotic assisted unloading in several operations. As we evaluate such advancements, I am reminded about one of the best features that comes with being privately owned and operated – the decision committees are small and very empowered.

Whether you’re on this site looking for a new logistics partner, or looking for a new career, thanks for visiting and for considering Acme.
